How to Teach Children to Love the Quran

Browse through our different programs

One of the greatest responsibilities Allah has placed upon parents is nurturing love for the Qur’an in the hearts of their children. The Qur’an is not only a book to be memorized, but a guide to be lived.

Allah says:
“Indeed, this Qur’an guides to that which is most upright.”
— Surah Al-Isra 17:9

Start with Love Before Obligation

Children connect emotionally before they understand responsibility. Introduce the Qur’an as a source of comfort, beauty, and blessing, not as a burden.

  • Recite Qur’an softly in the home
  • Let children see parents reading Qur’an regularly
  • Speak positively about Qur’an learning

A child who sees love will naturally follow.

Make the Qur’an Part of Daily Life

Consistency is more important than long sessions.

  • Read a few verses daily after Maghrib or Fajr
  • Play Qur’an recitation during calm times
  • Link verses to daily situations (gratitude, patience, kindness)

These small moments build lifelong attachment

Teach Meaning Along with Recitation

Even young children can understand simple meanings.

  • Explain verses in age-appropriate language
  • Focus on Allah’s mercy, kindness, and care
  • Relate stories of the Prophets to real life

Understanding creates emotional connection.

Encourage Without Pressure

Harshness pushes children away. The Prophet ﷺ said:
“Gentleness is not found in anything except that it beautifies it.”
— Sahih Muslim

Encourage progress, praise effort, and avoid comparison.

Be a Living Example

Children imitate more than they listen.

  • Show respect when the Qur’an is recited
  • Act upon Qur’anic values in daily behavior
  • Display patience, honesty, and mercy at home

The strongest lesson is lived, not spoken.

Final Advice for Parents

Teaching the Qur’an is a long journey. Success is not measured by speed, but by sincerity and consistency. Make du‘a regularly that Allah places love for His Book in your children’s hearts.
